Dodge Journey: Reset “Oil Change Due” Light

Dodge Journey: Reset “Oil Change Due” Light

The Dodge Journey first debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then, more than a million Journeys were manufactured at FCA’s Toluca Assembly facility to the delight of casual and avid vehicle fanatics. For owners of this popular SUV, the “Oil Change Due” light will illuminate to let you know it’s time for an oil change every 5,000 miles or so depending on your driving habits. It’s a nice reminder for some but can be annoying to others which is why we’re here to teach you how to reset the notification light yourself with just a few steps.

How to reset the “Oil Change Due” on your Dodge Journey

Dodge Journey [2008-2015] models

To remove the “Oil Change Due” notification light on your 2008-2015 Dodge Journey, start with turning the ignition to the [On] or [Run] mode without pressing your foot on the brake pedal. Afterwards, fully depress and release on the accelerator 3 times within a 10-second interval. Once this is done, turn the key to the [Off] position and then back to [On] to confirm if the reset was accepted.

Dodge Journey vehicles made from [2016-Present]

To reset the “Oil Change Due” on your Dodge Journey vehicle made from 2016 onwards, ensure that your vehicle is turned off and do not press any foot pedals to initiate the reset process. Afterwards, turn the ignition on the [On] or [Run] position. This is [Engine Start/Stop] for Dodge Journey with push button models. Without starting the engine, press the accelerator all the way down slowly for up to 3 times within a 10-second interval.

Afterwards, turn the ignition of your vehicle to [Off] or [Lock]. Press the [Engine Start/Stop] once without holding the brake pedal to turn the electronics off if your Dodge Journey is equipped with a push start button. If done correctly, the “Oil Change Due” light should come off and no longer appear. This means that you’ve just reset the counter back to zero.

What to do when the “Oil Change Due” light does not go off after performing the steps?

If you’ve done the steps to reset the oil change notification light to no avail, it’s highly suggested to perform the following steps one more time to see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise, if the “Oil Change Due” light is still illuminating on your instrument panel, then it’s best to schedule your Dodge Journey for inspection by an authorized professional at your nearest local dealer right away to see if there are other underlying problems.

When does the oil change notification light come on?

The “Oil Change Due” notification light usually lights up every 5,000-10,000 miles depending on your driving habits. While you can reset the light when it comes on, Dodge suggests that you absolutely must not let the interval between oil changes exceed 10,000 miles or 1 year. This is to maintain the integrity of your engine and ensure your Dodge Journey is in top shape for years to come.

How important is bringing your Dodge Journey in for service?

While you can always clear the “Oil Change Due” notification light on your Dodge Journey, routine maintenance is still essential to maintain your vehicle’s performance and to help you avoid unwanted issues while out on the road. You can always refer to your Dodge Journey vehicle owner’s manual if you need specific details regarding your car’s accepted service intervals. As mentioned earlier, it’s an absolute must to schedule your vehicle for oil and filter change once you’ve reached 10,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. As your vehicle is being serviced, your mechanic will also check your car’s air filters, spark plugs, and other important components such as cooling and transmission fluids.
